Used to burgle houses without breaking open locks; 498 grams gold worth Rs. 65.20 lakh recovered
Mysuru: A notorious house burglar, who used to burgle houses without breaking open the door locks and locks of almirahs or wardrobes, has been arrested by the District Police.
Disclosing this at a press meet at his office in city yesterday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi said that the arrested house burglar is M.V. Rangegowda alias Santosh, a resident of Mudigere village in Alur taluk of Hassan district.
The Police have recovered gold ornaments weighing 498 grams and worth Rs. 65,20,000 from him, the SP added.
Continuing, the SP said that a few house owners keep the house keys under tulasi katte, footwear stand, under the doormat before going out. Rangegowda, who used to target such houses, searched for the keys in hiding places and once he got the key, he used to open the house door and enter inside.
Once inside the house, Rangegowda looked for the keys of almirah and wardrobes and once he laid his hands on the keys, he opened the almirahs and decamp with valuables, the SP added.
Informing about a robbery case, the SP said that robberies had taken place at Marballihundi and Beerihundi following which Jayapura Police had registered cases and had taken up the investigation. Jayapura SI Prakash Yetinamani and staff, following a tip off, arrested Rangegowda at Mahalakshmi Layout in Bengaluru and recovered 498 grams gold jewellery worth Rs. 65,20,000 from him.
Accused Rangegowda has a total of eight cases registered against him at various Police Stations including two cases each in Jayapura and Hunsur Rural Police Stations and one case each in Yelwal, Mysuru South, Bannur and Saligrama Police Stations, the SP said.
Accused Rangegowda had sold the stolen gold to a few gold and silversmiths on Doddagaradi Street in Hassan town, the SP added. Also, there are 17 cases registered against him in Bengaluru, Mandya, Kolar, Chikkamagalur and Hassan districts.
30 cases, 35 accused arrested: The SP disclosed that apart from Nanjangud dacoity case and house burglary cases, the Police have also solved a total of 30 cases by arresting 35 accused persons and recovered valuables worth Rs. 1,55,12,300 from the accused persons.
