NPS employees appeal Govt. to use contribution for tackling COVID

Mysore/Mysuru: With the deadly COVID-19 contagion continuing its rampage across the country, the State NPS (Non Pension Scheme) employees have appealed the Government to use their contribution totalling a whopping Rs. 12,500 crore for tackling  the pandemic.

In a letter to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa,  Karnataka State NPS Employees Association President Shantaram said that it is the social responsibility of the Government to vaccinate people and treat COVID patients for free. As such, the State Government should join hands with NPS Trust for withdrawing the contribution money invested in NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited) and use it for managing COVID crisis, he said.

Continuing, Shantaram said that the Government should also look at the option of transferring this money from NPS to GPF (General Provisional Fund) in future.

Maintaining that as per the directions of Pension Fund Regulatory Authority, the contribution of the employees and the Government, amounting to Rs. 12,500 crore has been credited at NSDL, he reiterated that the Government can use this money for managing COIVD crisis.
