NR Group’s drive to unclog feeder canal of Kukkarahalli Lake

N Ranga Rao & Sons Pvt. Ltd.: NR Group, the agarbathi to aerospace conglomerate, carried out numerous initiatives for the protection of environment and marine life in the city on World Environment Day.

Around 200 employees of NR Group along with M.R. Suresh, Chief Operating Officer, set out on a clean up drive to unclog the feeder canal of Kukkarahalli Lake. NR Group that strives for a greener Kukkarahalli also proposes to distribute 10,000 saplings to farmers and villagers in the region.

Thanks to sewage and plastic waste entering the Lake through the feeder canal, Kukkarahalli Lake, formerly home to 10,000-15,000 birds from 176 different species, now has a mere 2,000 birds. There have also been numerous reports of fish and bird deaths near the Lake in past few years. The clean up drive which began at 3.30 pm continued till 6 pm at Senate Bhavan entrance in Manasagangothri. This is the first step towards a year-long movement, with commitments from various employees to devote the first Sunday of every month to similar initiatives in and around Mysuru.
