SWR initiatives to sustain ecology

South Western Railway (SWR), Mysuru division: World Environment Day-2018 was observed by Mysuru division of SWR with an array of activities throughout the day.

Aparna Garg, Divisional Railway Manager of SWR Mysuru Division, administered Environment Day pledge to the officers and staff to promote conservation and sustainable management of environmental resources. Apart from this, tree plantation programme was organised in the premises of Railway Stations, establishments, Railway Hospitals and in colonies all over the division. Saplings were distributed to households.

SWR initiatives

  • A model of Bio-Toilet is displayed at Mysuru Railway Station for information of general public. The Bio-Toilet is a complete human waste management solution which reduces human waste to biogas and pure water with the help of bacterial inoculums.
  • Mysuru division has taken up various initiatives for water conservation and has adopted methods of recharging ground water.
  • A recycling plant with a capacity of 4 lakh litre is developed and commissioned at Mysuru.  Recycled water is utilised for washing and cleaning of rakes in pit line.
  • Railway Scouts & Guides played skit at Mysuru Railway Station spreading awareness on cleanliness, ecological balance and healthy hygiene.

A.K. Sinha, Additional Divisional Railway Manager,  Anand Bharti, Sr.Divisional Engineer- Co-ordination, Brij Mohan, Divisional Environment & Housekeeping Management, Ashish Gundal, Sr. Divisional Mechanical Engineer, Prashant Mastiholi, Sr.Divisional Personnel Officer and other Railway Officers were also present.
