Mysore/Mysuru: Opining that festivals like ‘Nrutyotsavas’ are needed for survival of all forms of dance and also for taking them forward for generations to come, acclaimed writer Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa said that people should encourage all forms of arts by watching them.
He was speaking after inaugurating the National Seminar ‘Moolam 2023 – The Roots’ and the second day of Nrutyotsava dance festival organised by the city’s Shambhavi School of Dance at Natana Rangashale in Ramakrishnanagar here recently.
Observing that arts will grow only by patronisation of people, Dr. Bhyrappa said that conducting music and dance fests is key for their promotion. Pointing out that there is a lot of difference between Western music – dance and Indian music – dance, he said that only one singer will be there in Hindustani music, which is related to meditation.
Noting that most of the Western music is of groups comprising 50-60 members, the veteran writer said that it will be like a military band. Regretting that the audience will be late most of the times for cultural programmes in Mysuru, he emphasised on the importance of being present on time and as well as patronisation.
Bharatanatyam dancer Geetha Chandran, Kuchupudi dancer and actor Vyjayanti Kashi and artist Shaswathi Sen spoke on the topics ‘Guru-Shishya Parampare’ and ‘Margadarshaka-Margadarshita’ relationship.
Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa was felicitated on the occasion. Nrutyalaya Trust Director and Danseuse Dr. Tulasi Ramachandra and others were present.
