NSS instils values beyond academics: Writer

December 15, 2025

Mysore/Mysuru: Writer D.N. Krishnamurthy has said that the National Service Scheme (NSS) helps students take bold steps towards a life of self-reliance. He was speaking as a special invitee at the valedictory of the NSS Camp organised by Sri Nataraja Girls PU College at Gejjagalli on the outskirts of the city recently.

“Apart from academics, students learn various life-oriented values in NSS, which are essential for co-existence. Girl students must study with a clear purpose and commitment to society. Along with becoming responsible citizens, they should cultivate strong values,” he advised.

He noted that while education shapes life, life itself teaches lessons. Parents who work hard to build their children’s future should not be pushed towards anxiety or neglect. Students must take good care of their parents, he added.

Expressing concern over the rise in old-age homes due to brain drain, he said that providing opportunities to talented individuals can curb such migration. He stressed that NSS Camps should create awareness on education, environmental pollution and cleanliness. He also urged students to “preserve Kannada while learning English and cultivate the habit of reading books.”

Ex-Gram Panchayat Member Lokesh arranged accommodation for 47 NSS volunteers at his residence. Village elders presented a file and pen to the volunteers.

Sri Nataraja Prathistana Special Officer Prof. S. Shivarajappa presided. Senior journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar delivered valedictory address. NSS Programme Officer R. Radha & Nagalambika were present.
