Mysuru: Champaka Educational and Cultural Trust, Mysuru, hosted the ‘Ashwayuja’ edition of its monthly series ‘Champaka Rashtreeya Kalaa Utsava’ on Nov. 9 at Champaka Academy in Ramakrishnanagar. This edition showcased Odissi and Bharatanatyam by accomplished artistes from Mysuru.
Dr. Pradhan Gurudatta, renowned littérateur and retired Professor of Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS), Mysuru, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the event and spoke on the importance of art for society and the positive impact on children.
The Odissi performance by Vidu. Sindhu Kiran and her disciple Satyapramodini of Rudra Nrithyayogashala, Mysuru, followed in which she started with the beautiful piece of Mangalacharan seeking the blessings of Bhagawan Jagannatha. Next was a pure dance sequence Pallavi in raga Vasantha, based on Sitaharan episode extracted from Ramacharita Manas of Sant Tulasidas. This was followed by the final creative piece ‘Moksha.’
The final Bharatanatyam feature by disciples of Vidu. Chitra Biligiri of Rangalakshanam Foundation based out of Kollegal and Mysuru was a cherished performance with beautiful abhinaya and energetic dance.
They showcased pushpanjali, ganesha stuti, shringapuradheeshwari and kalyana rama keertanas, which were highly appreciated by the audience.
All participants were given a certificate of appreciation. Trustees Dr. Nagalakshmi Nagarajan and Nagarajan Srinivasan were present at the event.
