One-day strike by builders: Construction activity hit

Mysore/Mysuru: Construction activity in and around Mysuru was disrupted yesterday, following the one-day strike by builders, real estate developers and contractors against increasing steel and cement prices. This was part of the nationwide protest called by the Builders’ Association of India, against steep hike in steel and cement prices.

A joint forum comprising Builders Association of India (BAI), Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI), National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India) representing various bodies of the construction industry had called for the strike. 

In Mysuru, construction activities were stopped at over 500 sites including Reserve Bank Note Paper Mill India Private Limited. The strike affected thousands of daily wage workers who depend on construction industry. Even shops selling construction material reported a lull in business, said Chairman of BAI Mysuru Centre M. Rathnaraj. 

The office-bearers of various industry bodies submitted memorandums to MLA L. Nagendra and S.A. Ramdas and also to Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha’s office.
