Online fraud: Pensioner, lecturer cheated of Rs. 5.58 lakh

Mysore/Mysuru: separate cases, a pensioner and a lecturer have lost a total of Rs. 5,58,506 to online fraudsters.

In the first case, retired RTO officer 70-year-old Jaleel Ahmed, a resident of K.R. Nagar, has been cheated of Rs. 4,14,957.  Ahmed received a call on his mobile phone and the caller on the other end, who told that he was calling from the SBI Branch, told Ahmed that he needs to update the Know Your Customer (KYC) details and sent him a website link. When Ahmed clicked on the link and updated the KYC, a sum of Rs. 4,14,957 was immediately transferred. A case has been registered at Dist. CEN Police Station. In the second case, 35-year-old H.S. Srikanth, a lecturer and a resident of Hootagalli, who received a link to apply for a part time job, lost Rs. 1,43,549 after he clicked the link.

A case has been registered at City’s CEN Police Station.
