Online frauds: City residents cheated of Rs. 2.12 lakh

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate incidents, two persons have been cheated of Rs. 2,12,980 in city.

In the first case, a 43-year-old woman was cheated of Rs. 64,480 by online fraudsters on the pretext of updating her PAN Card.

The woman, who was cheated is C.K. Lakshmi, a resident of Ramakrishnanagar E&F Block in city.

Lakshmi received a website link from mobile phone number 74703-06276 with a message to click on the link to update her PAN Card. After clicking on the link, a One Time Password (OTP) was sent to her mobile phone number, which she updated on the website. Immediately, a sum of Rs. 64,480 was withdrawn from her Bank account thus cheating her.

In the second case, a 63-year-old man has been cheated of Rs. 1,48,500. The senior citizen, who has been cheated is H. Srinivas of T.K. Layout in city.

Srinivas received a message on his mobile phone which stated that the power connection to his house would be disconnected.

Srinivas then called the number from which he had received the message and the person on the other end of the phone asked him to install the Quick Support App on his phone and follow the instructions.

Srinivas installed the App and even uploaded the OTP he received on his mobile phone and soon a total of Rs. 1,48,500 was withdrawn from his Bank account.

Both the cases have been registered at the city’s CEN Police Station.
