Mysuru, Oct. 19 (GA&DM)- Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) Director S.L. Channabasavanna said that being alert and taking precaution is the best way for prevention of cybercrimes.
He was speaking after inaugurating the orientation programme for first year PG students of University of Mysore (UoM) at Senate Bhavan in Manasagangothri here recently.
Pointing out that the younger community is the class which defines the future of our country, he expressed concern over attempts to victimise the young community through cyber crimes and supply of drugs. However, the youth should be cautious towards such attempts, he said adding that in this backdrop, the interaction between the Police and students should be like a responsible citizen of the country.
Noting that we are not the creators of digital systems and instead we are just their users, Channabasavanna observed that the data we feed in mobile apps are getting leaked. This has helped cybercriminals to use technology for committing cybercrimes and as such, the students should be careful while using social media.
Maintaining that all gadgets attached to our internet may get hacked, he said that criminals may use this to cheat us through many means and ways. “It is unfortunate that the educated are becoming victims of cyber frauds. It is a matter of concern that the number of deaths arising out of this cheating and frauds is increasing in our country,” he noted.
UoM Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Lokanath said that students, apart from focussing on their studies, should also concentrate on their health. Stating that students should not become scary under any circumstances, she said they should take on challenges with courage. Noting that no one on this earth is free of any problems, he contended that coming out of this and achieving big is a big victory in their life.
UoM Registrar M.K. Savitha, Skill Development Trainer Devi Prabha Alva, IQAC Director K.N. Amruthesh, Administrative Officer Prof. S.T. Ramachandra and others were present.
