Open drain inviting danger near Sub-urban Bus Stand

Mysuru: An open drain on the ever-busy Mother Teresa Road (B.N. Road), right opposite Sub-urban Bus Stand is inviting danger as the drain in not covered either by stole slabs or concrete slabs.

This is a double road and the drain was constructed in the middle, dividing the two roads, many months back but has been left uncovered since then throwing the safety of people in air. Though the drain wall projects about two feet above the ground, it is left open causing danger to the public.

Commuters, who alight from the buses, cross this spot to reach the other side of the road and if they slip and fall into the drain, who will take the responsibility, public questioned. This spot is more dangerous especially during night times and if at all there is power outrage, the entire place will be pitch dark and difficult to identify the drain. Also, no warning boards or barricades have been installed near the drain to warn the public.

Meanwhile, the drain is clogged and the water has remained stagnant becoming a perfect place for mosquitoes to breed. Also, empty plastic and PET bottles, plastic covers, empty plates and glasses, papers and other items are floating inside the drain and the MCC has not bothered to get it cleaned but tell residents to keep their surroundings clean. Why does the MCC not practice what it preaches? Public said that the MCC has forgotten that ‘Prevention is better than cure.’ Why take steps only after disaster strikes? they questioned.

While one side of the road is made of concrete, the other side is made of asphalt and potholes of various sizes and shapes have developed on the asphalt road.

Luckily, no major incidents have taken place so far, but if the MCC does not cover this drain, mishaps are sure to take place in future.
