Open Jeep Tourism and Souvenir Shops on cards for Dasara

DC chairs Tourism Committee meeting

Mysuru: The District Tourism Development Committee held a meeting at Deputy Commissioner’s office here yesterday in the context of Dasara which was chaired by DC D. Randeep.

Discussions were held on starting ‘Open Jeep Tourism’ and also to establish a Dasara Souvenir Shop at affordable prices to attract tourists during Dasara-2017.

Participating in the meeting, Mysuru Travels Association President B.S. Prashanth (of Safe Wheels) said that his organisation was floating a scheme to launch Open Jeep Tourism to provide information on historical buildings and environment of city for the benefit of tourists during Dasara. He sought co-operation from District Administration in this regard. He further said that souvenir shops exhibiting miniature metal models of historic structures in city would be star attraction for tourists especially if the shops come up at Zoo, Palace and such tourist spots.

Discussion was also held on organising ‘Open Street Festival’ on Devaraj Urs Road here in September. Discussion was also held with representatives of a company to establish the 3-D welcome sign atop Chamundi Hill during Dasara (Sept. 21-30).

The meeting also discussed launching of five hotel package schemes and selection of beneficiaries to run tourist taxis.

MCC Commissioner G.Jagadeesha, Food and Civil Supplies Deputy Director Dr. K. Rameshwarappa, Tourism Deputy Director Janardhan and others participated in the meeting.
