Open University gets new Director – Admissions

Mysuru: The Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) has appointed former Deputy Registrar for Examinations and Assistant Professor for Ancient History Shalva Pille Iyengara as the new Director (Admissions) to streamline the process.

Shalva Pille Iyengar will hold the additional charge, as per the order of VC Prof. D. Shivalingaiah.

According to sources at KSOU, the Karnataka Open Universities Act clearly mentions about the provision for Director (Admissions) which was not followed at KSOU and the admission process was being conducted by the Registrar.

The decision to create the post was taken at a special meeting held recently following which the appointment was made, sources said and added that Shalva Pille Iyengar may take charge tomorrow (Oct.25).

It may be recalled that the courses of KSOU had been de-recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) since 2013 for violating the norms and establishing Study Centres outside Karnataka and the UGC recently gave KSOU the permission to admit students to 34 courses.
