Mysuru: Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. D. Shivalingaiah has said that the Open University hopes to admit 30,000 students for its 17 courses that are granted permission by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Speaking to SOM, the VC said that the KSOU issued notification for admission to the courses on Aug.27, setting Oct.1 deadline for admission. Following the notification, the regional centres of the KSOU are flooded with applications and queries and it is expected that 30,000 students may get admitted this year, he said.
Pointing out that earlier 60 to 65 thousand students were getting admitted every year, the VC said that de-recognition of courses three years ago was the main reason for somewhat poor response from students.
But as there is more than 20 days left for admission deadline, the Open University expects a gradual increase in admission, the VC said and added that the KSOU will make a fresh appeal to the UGC soon for granting permission to 15 more courses.
