Madikeri/Mysuru: Orange Alert has been declared in Kodagu from today (Aug. 6) till tomorrow morning (Aug. 7) following predictions by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) as heavy rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm is expected till Wednesday morning.
The Kodagu district administration has also declared holiday for schools and colleges today.
Meanwhile, the district administration has also announced a Red Alert from Aug. 7 to Aug.9 morning as the IMD has predicted a very high rainfall in the region (more than 204.4 mm) and Orange Alert again from Aug. 9 to Aug. 10 and has warned people to remain cautious on these days.
The Madikeri-Madapura Main Road and Bhagamandala-Napoklu Road was waterlogged on Monday causing enormous hardship for motorists and public in general. River Cauvery and Lakshmanatheertha are flowing in full spate while there was significant increase in water level at Triveni Sangama in Bhagamandala. Traffic jam and power disruptions have been reported in many parts of the region.
Parts of Mysuru city and surrounding areas in the district also witnessed moderate rains. The city witnessed cloudy weather with frequent showers in many areas from 12.45 pm, which continued throughout the night and today also. The weather condition would remain same in the region, according to the information provided by the IMD.
RED Alert: Weather warning implies that recipients take action to protect themselves and their properties; this could be by moving their families out of the danger zone temporarily, by staying indoors or by other specific actions aimed at mitigating the effects of the weather conditions.
ORANGE ALERT: Weather warning is for weather conditions which have the capacity to make a significant impact on people living in the affected area. The issue of an Orange level weather warning implies that all recipients in the affected areas should prepare themselves in an appropriate way for the anticipated conditions.
