‘Organ Donation Pledging and Awareness Camp’ by Railway Protection Force

Mysore/Mysuru: On the occasion of Raising Day, the Railway Protection Force (RPF)  of South Western Railway (SWR), Mysuru Division, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, had organised an ‘Organ Donation Pledging and Awareness Camp’ on Sept. 28 through Jeevanasarthakathe, a body appointed by the State Government to oversee implementation of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act of 1994.

Rahul Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), SWR, Mysuru Division, inaugurated the camp in the presence of Dr. G.S. Ramachandra, Chief Medical Superintendent, Railway Hospital, Mysuru, Dr. Niranjan, Nephrologist, Mysuru Medical College & Research Institute, Thomas John, Divisional Security Commissioner, SWR, Mysuru. About 75 RPF personnel of SWR and 25 employees of other Departments pledged to donate their organs. 

Dr. Niranjan and Transplant Coordinators of Jeevanasarthakathe, A.V. Choodesh and Chetan Kumar spoke on the importance of organ donation and the need for public awareness. 

The team collected the organ donation pledging forms and issued ID cards to willing donors.

The consent forms of Thomas John and A. Sridhar, Assistant Security Commissioner, SWR, Mysuru, were handed over to representatives of Jeevanasarthakathe. 

Addressing the participants, Rahul Agarwal appreciated the noble gesture of RPF in organising the camp, a first-of-its-kind in South Western Railway and expressed confidence that this initiative would go a long way in achieving a sustained cadaveric transplant programme in the country thereby minimising the wastage of organs. 

He also thanked Jeevanasarthakathe team for their efforts in educating the public on organ donation, according to a press release from Dr. Manjunath Kanamadi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and PRO.
