More than 3,500 students from various undergraduate colleges across Mysuru took part in the day-long workshop on UPSC examinations organised by District Administration at Kalamandira this morning.
The programme, organised for the first time by District Administration, was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep by lighting the traditional lamp.
Later, addressing the gathering, he said that the students, who were present, were to be treated as aspirants of UPSC examinations and added that Superintendent of Police Ravi D. Channannavar, and himself were blessed to be serving the people as IAS and IPS officers.
“It is because of the right guidance, blessings from our parents and efforts that we have been able to sit in responsible positions today. 10 years back, even I as a student used to listen to a lot of lectures by resource persons on UPSC examinations. One has to have dedication and patience to crack the examination which is considered to be one of the toughest in the world”, he added.
Stating that no influence or money power would help the aspirants to become IPS, IAS or other officers, DC Randeep urged the students to remove such notions from their minds and start preparing for UPSC examination.
Citing his own example, he said that students have to be mentally strong and focused as sometimes it might take two or three attempts to clear the UPSC examination. “It is also important for one to have role models and cultivate the habit of reading newspapers and books, solving old question papers which would help in their preparations,” said DC Randeep.
Mysuru SP Ravi D. Channannavar, in his introductory remarks, said that similar events will be held once in every three months. Mysuru City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subramanyeshwara Rao is scheduled to deliver the valedictory address this evening.
The day-long workshop witnessed Probationary IAS Officer P. Lakshmi delivering a lecture on UPSC Mains Patterns; Assistant SP M.S. Mohammed Sujitha on ‘How to write the exam’, Probationary IPS Officer Arunamshugiri on ‘Prelims’; Darukesh of Education Department on ‘Skill of Memory’, Assistant SP Harish Pandey on ‘How to choose subjects for mains’. Later, it was followed up by a motivational speech by SP Ravi D. Channannavar.
The District Administration had to arrange for extra chairs and projectors as the number of the students, who arrived at venue, were more than expected. It has also arranged for lunch for them. For those who were unable to attend the workshop the information regarding the same will be made available on the District Administration website. A special interactive blog will also be created to answer the queries from the aspirants.
