Overstay of foreign students: College Principal booked

Mysuru: City Police have booked the Principal of a private college for allegedly helping 30 foreigners stay in India by giving them fake study certificates. Principal of Srikantha Women’s Degree College in Krishnaraja Mohalla, was booked for cheating by the Krishnaraja Police.

According to the Police, the Principal issued certificates to several foreigners, claiming they’re pursuing English language diploma course.

Police grew suspicious after a Yemeni girl produced another certificate, claiming she has continued diploma education in the same college. She had earlier given a similar certificate to City Special Branch Police and got her stay extended by a year.

An officer said that they wrote to University of Mysore, asking whether the college has permission to offer diploma course. “Varsity authorities told us the College has permission only to offer BA and B.Com courses, and not Diplomas,” he said.

Police said that the College had issued certificates illegally and the institution did not have permission to offer Diploma courses.

City Special Branch Inspector R.P. Ashok and K.G. Seetharam investigated the case.

In a communication, City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subramanyeswara Rao said that Colleges will be held responsible for the certificates they issue and if certificates and letters are issued illegally, action will be taken against them, he said.
