Palliative Care Centre dedicated to Mysuru

Mysuru: Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), in association with Mysore Medical College & Research Institute (MMC&RI), Mysuru, recently dedicated its Palliative Care Centre to the citizens.

SVYM’s Palliative Care Programme has provided free home-based care for more than 700 people from marginalised community since its inception in 2011. This service has now been extended to offer institutional Palliative Care in a 16-bed Centre.

Padma Shree awardee Dr. M.R. Rajagopal, Chairman, Pallium India, speaking after the launch, said that the Palliative Care Centre could be called a “Temple of Love and Affection.”

Stressing on the need for human touch, he said that every person would like a caring hand to hold him/ her in their last days, not a steel walker.

He opined that it is the collective responsibility of the Government, corporates, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and individuals to be sensitive and responsible in health sector to provide a planned support — Health for All, Health with All.

Dr. (Flt.Lt.) M.A. Balasubramanya, Secretary, SVYM, spoke on the importance of Palliative Care giving a new dimension to Health Sector. He stressed on the fact that Palliative Care is not just ‘end of life care’ but beyond, that is, physical, psychological, social and spiritual care given not just to the patient but also to the family.

T.V. Manjunath, CEO, BSCPL, Bengaluru, expressed his happiness to be a part of the                             programme.

Jayakumar, Dr. H.R. Manikarnika and Dr. Shylaja, who have extended their support to the Palliative Care Programme, were felicitated.
