Parivara, Talavaras to come under ST list

Mysore/Mysuru: Water Resources Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi said that the State Government will take steps to implement the notification of the Union Government on including Parivara and Talavara communities  under Scheduled Tribes (ST) list.

Speaking to Nayaka community leaders from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts at Jaladarshini Guest House here on Thursday, he said that a meeting with Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa is scheduled for Saturday, during which the measures to implement the notification will be discussed.

Pointing out that there are several schemes for farmers and Scheduled Tribe communities, Ramesh Jarkiholi said that Nayaka community members must utilise all available benefits from the Government.

Noting that the then Maharajas of Mysore have built several water tanks in the region for the benefit of the people, he said that the Government will take all necessary measures to fill them up to ensure sufficient water supply for drinking purposes and crops.

Replying to a question on whether his fellow BJP leader A.H. Vishwanath, who lost the bypolls from Hunsur, would be nominated as an MLC, the Minister said that the issue was left to the BJP High Command. Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and the Party High Command will discuss the nominations and he has nothing to say on the issue, he added.
