Mysuru: While driver errors such as speeding, distracted driving and drunk driving are among the leading causes of road accidents, dangerous road conditions like poor physical condition and lack of regular maintenance too contribute to accidents.

Various Government agencies are responsible for maintaining roads and ensuring they are safe for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Maintaining roads includes providing proper signage, lighting, pavement markings, signals and traffic control devices. 

If an accident occurs because of a hazardous road condition, the Government agency responsible for maintaining the road may be liable.

One such road in city which is riddled with crater-like potholes and jelly stones popping out of these potholes and being strewn all over the road, is the road next to Cheluvamba Park in Vontikoppal where hundreds of motorists ply on it daily.

Motorists, especially two-wheeler riders, are the worst suffers on this road and should take extreme caution while riding on this road as even a second of them getting distracted will land them on the floor resulting in injuries sometimes seriously.

Senior citizens, women and children frequent on this so called road to go for their regular walks to Cheluvamba Park. The road also houses CFTRI School, Chamundeshwari and Anajaneyaswamy Temples and Rama Mandira. The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Guest House is also on the same road.

Students of the nearby Maharani’s College on Valmiki Road have to take the same road to reach their college and also to catch bus on KRS Road. The road is also used by numerous school buses and several autorickshaws to ferry children to schools.

If one looks at this road, they will come to know that this road has not been asphalted since many years and not even patch up works have been undertaken.

The residents and the public have urged the authorities concerned to take up repair works of this road and make the road motorable at the earliest.
