Pathetic state of UGD at CFTRI Layout and Sharadadevinagar

September 19, 2024

Sir,

Residents of CFTRI Layout and Sharadadevinagar are grappling with the deteriorating Underground Drainage (UGD) system in the area. Despite multiple complaints and follow-ups with the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), no tangible action has been taken to resolve the issue.

A glaring example is a drainage pit left open by a contractor for over a month. This neglected pit, located along the main road connecting CFTRI Layout to Sharadadevinagar Circle, causes daily inconvenience to the public. The drain frequently overflows, releasing a foul stench that has made living conditions unbearable for nearby households.

More concerning is the overflow of sewage into the premises of Amrita School, creating a serious health hazard for students. The stagnant sewage is a breeding ground for diseases, posing significant risks, especially to young children who are more vulnerable to infections.

Despite the severity of the situation, the MCC has yet to take concrete steps to address the issue. The City Corporation must not only expedite repair work but also ensure accountability for such negligence.

Basic amenities, such as an efficient drainage system, are essential for the well-being of the city’s residents. The authorities must act swiftly before the situation worsens and leads to a severe health crisis.

We, the residents, urge the MCC to address this issue as a priority, ensuring the UGD system in the area is restored and maintained with the urgency and diligence it deserves.
