Mysuru: Fed up with the poor response to the Property Tax payment despite several reminders to meet the tax payment deadlines, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) had some time back decided to act tough with the defaulting property owners. The downside of this decision, however, are notices being sent to prompt taxpayers despite them paying their taxes in advance.
Take the case of B. Shivarudrappa, a resident of Ramakrishnanagar (Ward Number 16) who has received a notice from the MCC. Shivarudrappa has paid advance tax for a house that is owned by his wife Manjula for the year 2018-2019.
“Despite this, the MCC has issued me a notice asking me to pay taxes for 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 and has given me a month’s deadline,” he told Star of Mysore. Shivarudrappa added that in the past too, he received such notices.
“I had approached the Zone 3 Corporation Office and had rectified their mistakes in the past. But I am continued to be harassed for no fault of mine. I then telephoned the Assistant Commissioner and brought the issue to the officer’s notice and this has not helped me,” narrated Shivarudrappa.
He also said that the Assistant Commissioner, instead of rectifying the mistakes committed by his junior officers, spoke rudely. “The officer was very rude and gave me evasive replies,” Shivarudrappa said, producing the receipts of the tax paid and a copy of the MCC notice.
