Peaceful Hanuma Jayanti at Hunsur

Hunsur: Thousands of devotees took part in the procession held as part of Hanuma Jayanti at Hunsur this morning.

The procession, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 3, was cancelled over a dispute between officials and supporters of BJP MP Pratap Simha, on the route of the procession.

The authorities, taking note of the sentiments of the people and holding meeting with local leaders, allowed the procession on a revised route.

Accordingly, the procession began on the revised route, starting from Ranganatha Extension and proceeded through Kalkunike Circle, Hotel Shabari Prasad, Hotel Devi Prasad, Old Bridge, Rotary Circle, Old Bus Stand and the New Bus Stand before culminating at Manjunatha temple.

The local authorities had made all arrangements to ensure that the procession passed off peacefully without any untoward incidents.

The district administration had permitted the elected representations only to walk along the procession, after barring them on using vehicles in the procession.

MP Pratap Simha, former MP Tejaswini Ramesh, senior JD(S) leader and former MP A.H. Vishwanath, Hunsur MLA H.P. Manjunath and a host of other leaders took part in the procession.

Later speaking to the media, Pratap Simha said the Hanuma Jayanti procession was being held peacefully in the town for the past 25 years. But there were a few attempts in the last couple of years by vested interests to politicise the procession and celebration, which was really unfortunate, he said and added that Hanuma Jayanti was being celebrated in the town in grand manner today.
