Mysuru: The 52nd Annual Day celebrations of All India Institute Speech and Hearing (AIISH) was held at its premises in Manasagangothri here this morning.
Inaugurating the programme, Dr. R. Venkata Rao, Vice-Chancellor, National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, opined that teaching was a very noble profession.
He said that people with any physical impairment should be treated with dignity and respect.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Founder, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), opined that higher education was not very effective in India.
He added that education should not be commercialised and sought more regional centres of AIISH in the country.
Several mobile apps pertaining to audiology were released on the occasion and about 10 employees of AIISH were honoured as distinguished AIISHians. Retired employees of the Institute were felicitated along with Ph.D holders.
On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed with SVYM to establish an Outreach Speech Service Centre at Sargur in H.D. Kote taluk.
AIISH Director Dr. Asha Yathiraj, HoD of Audiology Dr. Ajit Kumar and others were present.
