Rains to continue for 2 more days
Mysore/Mysuru: With the city getting no respite from overnight heavy rains, with drizzle continuing in the morning as well, people ventured out to shops located close to their homes, braving the rains, to buy essential commodities and other articles of daily use, right from 6 am. Most people were seen walking through the streets holding umbrellas and wearing jackets and raincoats.
Due to cyclonic storm Tauktae, the city has been witnessing moderate to heavy showers since late night on Thursday. As rains continued to drizzle, people preferred to shop essential commodities at shops in their own locality and as such, the Central Business District wore an almost deserted look.
After the shops shut down at 10 am, the localities too painted a deserted picture with hardly a handful of people and vehicles seen on streets.
As today is a Sunday, long queues of people were seen in most of mutton, chicken meat and fish selling shops, with people eager to buy their required quantity within the 10 am deadline, when shops shut for the day due to COVID Curfew.
Meanwhile, Dr. Govindaraju of Organic Farming Research Station at Naganahalli in the taluk, told Star of Mysore this morning said that the city and the taluk will receive light to moderate rainfall for two more days due to the effect of Tauktae cyclonic storm.
He observed that heavy rains may bear an impact on the crop yield in respect of cereal and millet crops due to soil dampness and at the same time the rain is a boon to tobacco, as sowing is over and as well as paddy and sugarcane crops.
