PFA rescues dogs from illegal dog breeder in city

Mysore/Mysuru: People For Animals (PFA), Mysuru, with the help of Animal Welfare Office and Police, raided an illegal backyard dog breeder at Udbur village, Jayapura, Mysuru, on Oct. 3 and have rescued six out of 18 dogs and have sent them to The Woof Wagon Pet Resort for rehabilitation.

During the raid, various pedigrees such as Huskies, German Shepherds, Dobermans, Retrievers and Labradors were found housed in metal cages with no space for them to move about comfortably.

According to the General Regulations related to Dog Breeding in India, it is mandatory for the dog breeders to register themselves with the State Animal Welfare Board of their respective States, which this breeder had not done, hence the whole dog breeding operation was illegal. According to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rule, 2017, unnecessary mutilation of ears is banned and yet two Dobermans found with this breeder had their ears cropped and tails docked.

PFA is cracking down on illegal dog breeders due to the high rates of animal abuse that occurs in this trade and has rescued more than 100 pedigrees this year alone after being abandoned by its breeders, according to the press release.
