PIL filed in HC questioning Deputy CM’s post

Mysuru:  A person from Mysuru has filed a petition in the High Court seeking cancellation of the Deputy Chief Minister’s post on the grounds that there was no such provision in the Constitution.

Shehkar S. Iyer, a resident of Mathura Nagar in city in his PIL (Public Interest Litigation), questioned the legality of Dr. G. Parameshwara taking oath as Deputy CM. Pointing out there was no such post as Deputy CM in the Constitution, Iyer has prayed the Court to declare the Deputy Chief Minister’s post as unconstitutional, as the post does not have constitutional validity.

Iyer has named the Chief Secretary, Under Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), Secretary to the Governor and Dr.G. Parameshwara as the respondents.

The petition is likely to come up for hearing next week. The outcome of the petition is being watched keenly, as in the past, B.S. Yeddyurappa of the BJP had functioned as Deputy CM in the JD(S)-BJP coalition Government in 2006-07.
