Pillion rider killed after bike hits cycle, falls into canal

Nanjangud: A youth from Mysuru, who was riding pillion on a bike, died on the spot after the bike hit a cycle and fell into a canal near the curve on Mysuru-Ooty National Highway near Mallanamoole in the taluk yesterday. The bike rider and the cyclist, who received serious injuries, have been admitted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru.

While the deceased has been identified as Prajwal (21) of Rajendranagar, the injured rider is 22-year-old Bharat, also from Rajendranagar and cyclist Puttaswamappa, a resident of Basavanapura in the taluk.

Bharat and Prajwal were proceeding from Rajendranagar in Mysuru to a relative’s place at Alaganchi village in Nanjangud taluk on their Bajaj Pulsar bike yesterday. 

When they took a turn near Mallanamoole, they hit cyclist Puttaswamappa and the bike then hit the bridge and fell into Hullahalli-Rampura Canal resulting in Prajwal suffering serious head injuries and breathing his last on the spot, while Bharat and Puttaswamappa sustained serious injuries.

It is learnt that deceased Prajwal was a Diploma student at CPC Polytechnic in Mysuru, while Bharat is pursuing his BE course at Vidya Vikas Engineering College on Bannur Road, Mysuru. A case has been registered at Nanjangud Traffic Police Station.
