Mysuru: In a tragic incident, a woman pillion rider was killed on the spot while her husband escaped with minor injuries, when the motorcycle they were riding was knocked down by a car near Mysore Airport in Mandakalli on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road this morning. Maramma (48), wife of Mallaiah of Dhanagalli in the taluk, is the deceased.
The couple had gone to Koodanahalli to distribute the invitation cards of the wedding of their son which was due next week.
Maramma and Mallaiah were returning from Koodanahalli to their village at about 9 am and as their motorcycle touched the Mysuru-Nanjangud road, a speeding Innova car coming from Mysuru side, knocked down the motorcycle from behind, killing Maramma on the spot.
The unscientific approach road to highway from Koodanahalli road is said to be the cause of accident. Soon after the mishap, angry villagers alleging that the haphazard approach to the highway from Koodanahalli Road was the cause of mishap, staged a rasta roko demanding erection of road humps and for proper way of approach to the highway.
They further alleged that six persons lost their lives in similar accidents that occurred at this unscientific stretch of the road in the past few months. The villagers dispersed after ASP M.A. Aiyappa, Mysuru South CPI Karim Ravuthan and other Policemen arrived at the spot and assured the villagers of taking up the issue with NHAI authorities.
