Mysore/Mysuru: P.S. Vastrad, State Nodal Officer, Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) has directed the Officers of various departments to conduct activities in a better manner to increase the percentage of voting.
He was speaking during a meeting of Taluk-level Officers from various departments, organised at the Taluk Panchayat auditorium in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, in the city on Wednesday.
Vastrad said “SVEEP activities should be organised effectively to create awareness among people regarding elections and clear confusions if any in the minds of the people about polling process.”
The awareness programmes should be planned along with associations and impetus should be given to those polling booths with low turnout after identifying them. The migrants, tribals, daily wage labourers, disabled among several others should be encouraged to exercise their franchise without fail, advised Vastrad.
Several people have their own doubts over functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). A demonstration should be conducted to explain about the functioning of EVMs.
M.S. Giridhar, Executive Officer of Mysuru Taluk Panchayat said “We have visited all the PU Colleges in the taluk to convince youths who have attained 18 years and above to enrol their names in voter list. Door-to-door visits also have been conducted to add the names to voter list.”
Deputy Director of School Education and Literacy Department, Deputy Director of PU Education and Taluk-level officers attended the meeting.
