Plastic waste godown catches fire

Mysuru:  Plastic wastes stored in a godown on CV Road in Bannimantap, caught fire partially destroying  plastic waste yesterday morning.

As soon as the fire was noticed by the godown staff and public, at about 10.30 am, they immediately informed the Fire Station at Bannimantap and over 30 Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who rushed to the spot, managed to bring the fire under control and prevented the fire from spreading further.

As a large crowd had gathered near the spot, NR Police had to disperse them to make way for fire extinguishing vehicles.

The estimate of the loss is yet to be calculated and it is suspected that short circuit led to the fire. But the exact cause for the fire is to be known.

CESC officials and staff inspected the spot and the jurisdictional Mandi Police conducted mahazar. MCC officials also visited the spot and inspected the precautionary measures taken at the gowdown besides providing suggestions and instructions.

Chief Fire Officer Jayaramaiah, Regional Fire Officer Chandan, District Fire Officers Gururaj, Ganganayak and K.G. Ramesh led the extinguishing operation.

Mandi Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
