‘Platform’ dogs: A menace to train passengers!

Sir,

The problem of street dogs is not limited to the streets of the city. Their presence is seen on the platforms of the City Railway Station too. At least three dogs were seen on the same platform during my recent visit to the Station. Their total number may be a wild guess.

According to an estimate, two dogs can multiply to over 300 in three years, if all are survived. Mere presence of the dogs on the platform may not pose any threat to passengers. However, sudden barking and howling during their in-fight may create panic in passengers, especially children.

Dog bites by healthy dogs or with Rabies infected dogs may definitely pose a threat to railway passengers as well as the staff on duty and shopkeepers.

Besides all these, though presence of dogs on platform is not limited to City Railway Station, their presence on a clean platform is not a healthy sign and it may leave a bad impression in foreign tourists, as many foreign travellers use trains to go to other tourist destinations from Mysuru. Hope, Railway authorities will take appropriate action to keep the platforms  free of dogs.
