New Delhi: The Indian Railways has warned passengers against playing music, videos or any audio on mobile phones in speaker mode inside trains and in any Railway premises which causes disturbance to other passengers.
To check the growing menace, Southern Railway has warned that such behaviour could attract a penalty of Rs. 1,000 and lead to removal of such persons from railway premises, including coaches. Continued violation after a warning from a competent Railway official may lead to six months’ simple imprisonment and/or a fine of Rs. 5,000.
Awareness has been created through public announcements and station notices in this regard and Ticket Examiners have been authorised to act against violators. The Railways has invoked Section 145 (2) (a) of the Railways Act, as amended by the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act.
The fresh advisory issued by the Indian Railways notes that loud and prolonged phone conversations, disturbing ringtones and audio played without headphones inconvenience other passengers, particularly in the quieter environment of air-conditioned coaches.
Railway officials have appealed for cooperation and adherence to basic public etiquette besides asking passengers experiencing persistent disturbances to alert railway staff or register complaints through the RailMadad portal.
The Railway authorities have urged passengers to use earphones for audio, keep calls brief and speak at a moderate volume to ensure a more comfortable journey for all.
