Plea to hand over Chinnatambi gold cheating case to SIT

Mysore/Mysuru: JD(S) State Vice-President K.V. Shivaram has urged to hand over the gold cheating case of Sundar Raj alias Chinnatambi amounting to crores of rupees to the SIT.

Addressing a press meet at Pathrakarthara Bhavan in city yesterday, Shivaram said that Chinnatambi had lured customers by promising low interest rate for pledged gold and purchase of gold jewellery at maximum price and had cheated the customers. Also, the gold items pledged by the customers have been melted, he added and urged the State Government to initiate a thorough probe and provide justice.

Pointing out that media reports stated that Chinnatambi had melted over 600-kg pledged gold which is valued at over Rs. 1,000 crore, Shivaram questioned, how can an ordinary gold jewellery trader invest or conduct transaction of such a large amount. Even if his properties are sold, it will not cross beyond Rs. 20 crore.

Stating that it has been two years since complaints were lodged against Chinnatambi, Shivaram urged the State Government to initiate action against the Income Tax officials, Police officers and staff for supporting Chinnatambi and warned of staging protests if the State Government fails to act.

S.S. Murthy, Kudluru Sridharamurthy, Ranganath and Baba Saheb were present at the press meet.
