I wish to draw the attention of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to the continuous wastage of drinking water due to damaged water supply pipelines at two locations on the Ring Road in Dattagalli, near Union Bank and near Maruti Steel Suppliers.
For the past two to three months, treated drinking water has been leaking from the damaged pipelines during the morning and evening supply hours. Thousands of litres of potable water are being wasted every day.
Residents have repeatedly attempted to bring the matter to the notice of the MCC and calls made to Vani Vilas Water Works office have gone unanswered. A resident also visited the office in person and lodged a complaint, but no action has been taken so far to repair the leaks.
To understand the extent of the wastage, I collected water from one of the leak points and was able to fill a one-litre bottle in less than 20 seconds. Based on this, it is estimated that around 750 litres of water may be wasted every day at that location alone, amounting to nearly 22,500 litres a month.
The leak near Maruti Steel Suppliers appears to be even more severe, with an estimated wastage of 30,000 to 40,000 litres per month.
Taken together, these two leaks could be resulting in the loss of nearly 60,000 to 70,000 litres of treated drinking water every month.
The actual quantity may be even higher, as it was difficult to collect all the water flowing from the damaged pipeline.
Unfortunately, such large-scale wastage has been allowed to continue for months despite repeated complaints. I request the MCC Commissioner to inspect the sites immediately and carry out the necessary repairs without further delay.
