Police close silk shop on Chamundi Hill Road

Mysuru:  High drama prevailed at a silk shop on Chamundi Hill Road this morning when officials from the Revenue Department and the Police came to seal the shop following an order issued by Tahsildar. A woman, who claimed to be the owner of the shop, allegedly threatened to commit suicide holding a knife in her hands.

The incident occurred at Kauvery Silk Udyog on Chamundi Hill Road. Mysuru Taluk Tahsildar T. Ramesh Babu had yesterday issued orders to close the shop. The Tahsildar’s order stated that a few people, who are claiming ownership over the shop, are causing tension in the area and complaints have been lodged at Nazarbad Police Station.

Complaints and counter complaints have been lodged by a group led by Sameena and Chand Pasha and the group led by Syed Ashwak. Due to constant strife between the groups over the shop ownership, there are chances of a law and order breakdown and also communal tension in the area especially during Dasara, the Tahsildar stated in his order.

Even the Nazarbad Police have submitted a report in this regard and Tahsildar ordered the closure of the shop under IPC Section 145. Further, the Tahsildar stated that that the shop will be closed till the civil dispute in the Court regarding the ownership of the shop is adjudicated. The officer has directed the Nazarbad Police to enforce the closure order.

When Revenue officers and the Police came to the shop to close it this morning, Sameena allegedly threatened to commit suicide if the shop is closed. Holding a knife, she claimed that she was being harassed though she owned the shop.

The Police and the Revenue officials had a tough time in convincing her to vacate the shop and it took more than two hours for the officials to convince her. The woman later relented and the shop was sealed.
