Police Commissioner releases book on ‘Women and Criminal Laws’

Mysore/Mysuru:  Stressing on the need for sensitising women on the laws of the land, City Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta observed that efforts should be made for economic empowerment of women as it would help them lead a self-reliant life.

He was speaking after releasing Dr. M.S. Umapathy’s book ‘Women and Criminal Laws’ at a programme organised at a Private Hotel here yesterday.

Pointing out that there are many ways for economic empowerment of women, Dr. Chandragupta said that it is important to save women from domestic violence or atrocities at houses, place of work etc.

Noting that an economically empowered woman can take independent decisions, he said that staying informed is vital  in these days, where a fast life has become the order.

Opining that an uncaring  attitude  and mindless acts of men are  responsible for most of the crimes against women, the Police Commissioner said that it is important to create awareness about laws that are pro-women in nature. He called upon parents to keep a tab on the activities of their male children.

Sai Pragathi Foundation Founder Dr. Rathnamma said exploitation of women would stop if everyone treats women as mothers. Author Dr. Umapathy, Retired Police Officers Anand and J.B. Rangaswamy and others were present.
