Police Constable hurt as bike rams into him during helmet checking drive

Mysuru:  A Police Constable, attached to Vijayanagar Police Station, was injured when a bike rider rammed his two-wheeler into the Constable during helmet checking drive near Belawadi Check Post on Hunsur Road yesterday. The bike rider too suffered injuries and both have been admitted to a private hospital in Jayalakshmipuram.

The injured Constable is Kamanna. Yesterday, V.V. Puram Traffic Police led by B.G. Prakash along with Vijayanagar Police personnel, who were on duty at the check post, were conducting a drive to penalise helmetless riders during which Constable Kamanna saw a helmetless rider coming from Belawadi side and signalled him to stop the bike.

But the rider in a bid to escape from the Police, increased the speed of his bike and in the process rammed into Kamanna and fell on the road resulting in the rider suffering bruises on his hands and legs and the Constable getting injured below his left eye.

Inspector Prakash and staff rushed the injured to a private hospital at Jayalakshmipuram . A case has been registered at V.V. Puram Traffic Police Station in this regard.
