Police detain Bengaluru couple by mistake

Mysore/Mysuru: Following tensions on Chamundi Hill road this morning over two opposing protest marches, City Police blocked all entry points and connecting roads to the Hill, including Thavarekatte Road, Sangolli Rayanna Circle Road, Uthanahalli Road and Lalitha Mahal Road.

The blockade caused severe inconvenience to devotees heading to the Chamundi Temple for a darshan of Goddess Chamundeshwari.

In a dramatic incident, a woman and her husband who had travelled from Bengaluru to visit the Temple were mistakenly arrested by Police at Sangolli Rayanna Circle, who assumed they were part of the protests.

Moments later, the distraught woman broke down in tears, explaining to Police that they had come to pray for their daughter’s success in a job interview, as she had recently passed her exams with high marks.

The emotional scene unfolded in front of the media, with the woman wailing and pleading for their release, stating that they were innocent devotees.

Realising the error, senior Police officers intervened and immediately released the couple from custody. However, deeply shaken by the ordeal, the couple returned to Bengaluru without being able to offer their prayers at the Temple.
