Police held hostage… by mosquitoes!

Mysuru: Lakshmipuram Police Station in the heart of the city has a unique problem and the Policemen there are faced with a daily predicament — to come to the office or not. Reason: Mosquito menace due to a broken underground drainage near the Police Station.

If they stay out of the office they are marked absent and their salary will be cut. If they come to the office they are bitten by mosquitoes and fear being catching dengue.

Their fear is not unfounded because Lakshmipuram Inspector Raghu, ASI Prabhudev, Mariswamy Prasanna Murthy and Head Constables Basavaraj Urs and Vanajakshi are suffering from severe fever and have been admitted to various private hospitals in city.

The cause for the mosquitoes menace is because an UGD pipe behind the Police Station has been broken and sewage water has been stagnating for well over two months. Despite many requests and representations to the MCC, the civic authorities have not bothered to fix the broken drain pipe.

Reacting on the issue, City Police Commissioner Dr. A Subrahmanyeswara Rao said that he was not aware of the drainage issue at the Police Station and would speak to the concern authorities and solve the problem.
