Police Inspector in mufti assaulted, one arrested

Mysore/Mysuru: Vijayanagar Police have arrested a man on charges of assaulting Arasikere Police Inspector, who was in mufti and investigating a kidnap case.

The Inspector, who was assaulted is P.P. Somegowda while the man, who assaulted him is Mohan, a resident of S.R.S. Layout in city.

Details: Arasikere Inspector Somegowda, who had registered a case of a minor girl being kidnapped had come to a private hotel city on May 26 along with his staff Yogesh, Shashidhar and a relative of the minor girl following information that Bharathi, an employee of the hotel had information about the minor girl and the alleged kidnapper.

The Police, who collected information from the hotel owner came to know that Bharathi was residing in S.R.S. Layout in city. They then took a hotel employee along with them to the house of Bharathi only to find the house locked.

In the meantime, Mohan, who was heavily drunk, questioned the Police staff who were in mufti as to why they had come to his area and began hurling abuses. Inspector Somegowda told Mohan that they were Police and had come to investigate a kidnap case.

But Mohan, in a drunken stupor slapped the Inspector and said “Even if you are a Police, you have to take my permission to enter my area,” and abused them using foul language, following which Inspector Somegowda lodged a complaint at Vijayanagar Police Station.

Based on the complaint, Vijayanagar Police arrested Mohan and produced him before a Court.
