Police must not discontinue faulty number plate drive

October 9, 2023

Sir,

I commend our City Traffic Police for initiating action on penalising the faulty number plates, albeit somewhat belatedly.

There are numerous motorists who deliberately flout the regulations concerning proper display of registration number plates, often with dubious intentions. It is essential that these violators are apprehended.

My hope is that the traffic authorities will not discontinue this campaign after a few days and revert to their routine focus on apprehending helmet-less riders.

While I strongly believe that motorists who violate helmet rules are putting themselves at personal risk, those who disregard other traffic regulations endanger both fellow motorists and pedestrians and this behaviour needs to be curbed.
