Polling begins in Jayanagar Assembly Constituency

Bengaluru: Polling began on a brisk note in Jayanagar Assembly constituency in Bengaluru this morning  where election was deferred due to the death of BJP candidate and sitting member B.N. Vijaykumar, just a few days before the May 12 elections.

People were seen going to the polling stations in a large numbers early in the day. Jayanagar was once considered as the largest residential layout in Asia. It is mainly inhabited by office-going public.

Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy, daughter of former minister Ramalinga Reddy and BJP candidate Prahlad Babu, brother of Vijayakumar are involved in a direct fight through there in all 19 candidates in the fray, including Ravikrishna Reddy of Lancha-Mukta Forum. JD(S) candidate Kale Gowda has withdrawn from fray and is supporting the Congress candidate.

The counting of votes will take place on June 13 in NMKRV College where the EVMs will be kept after the polling. There are a total 2,03,184 voters in this constituency.
