By-polls: Liquor licence suspended

In the backdrop of Nanjangud by-poll, the officials who raided liquor shops in the constituency recently, have temporarily susapended liquor licences of MSIL wine shop at Hedathale and Shiva Wines at Hullahalli in Nanjangud taluk from Mar. 22 to April 10.

The licences were suspended for holding less stocks, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Excise.

Also, the Officials in a series of raids on several bars across Nanjangud town on Mar. 27 have registered cases against Maruti Bar, Anjanadri Bar, Alankar Bar, Rockline Bar and Chirag Bar for improper bill book maintenance and non-supply of food.

In the wake of model code of conduct, the Excise officials carried out 138 raids and registered a total of 42 cases, out  of which 9 were for serious offences, 13 for violation  of licence norms and 20 for allowing liquor consumption in public spaces.

A total of 25 persons were arrested, besides seizing 90.03 litres of liquor and  3 vehicles in connection with these 42 cases, according to a press release.
