Poor condition of footpaths in Mysuru

Sir,

I have seen the civic authorities are building good tiled footpaths next to the main road in most of the places in the city and the new roads are asphalted pre or post Dasara in Mysuru.

I really appreciate the good work which is being done by them and kudos to MCC team.

But what is surprising for me is maintenance of footpath. Newly built footpaths will vanish within a few weeks after their birth.

Here is an example of the 1-km stretch between Maharshi School and Sterling theatre in Vidyaranyapuram to JP Nagar connecting road, and this is not different on the parallel road.

Half-completed footpath makes the walkway unusable in many places. Concrete debris is dumped on this stretch, which forces pedestrians to step down to the road next to the footpath.

After every 20 to 30 metres, one can see a trench or open drainage calling for disaster for the user of the footpath.

Open drains, Transformers or Electrical pole and petty shops occupying the footpath are some common restrictions in many places on this stretch.

I request the authorities to ensure that the debris is cleared from the footpath, tiling is done properly, open drainages are closed, encroachments are cleared to ensure that the pedestrians start using footpath than the road next to the footpath.

I am sure, the status is same in most of the footpaths in Mysuru. Hence, I request the authorities and the people’s representatives to initiate a drive to clear the footpath under the leadership of local legislator, Mayor and Corporators in most of the places and take pride of becoming Cleanest City in India soon.
