Mysuru: Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) will stage a protest in front of DC’s Office here tomorrow (July 29) at 11 am to urge the Government to take stern action against people behind the construction of houses under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) to rehabilitate Ekalavyanagar destitute families of nomads.
Disclosing this at a press meet here on Friday, Ningaraj Malladi of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti recalled that the District Administration had allowed the nomads to live in huts erected on a plot in Shyadanahalli in the taluk and following a movement by DSS, multi-storeyed houses were constructed in Ekalavyanagar under JnNURM by the District Administration.
He said that the Slum Clearance Board got 1,040 houses constructed at a cost of Rs.47.78 crore to rehabilitate about 354 families of nomads. But he regretted that the said houses were in bad condition with no proper infrastructure.
Alleging that the houses have been allotted to outsiders and not nomads, he sought legal action against the corrupt officers of the Slum Board and a judicial probe into the scam.
