Poorviraaga enthralls music-lovers

Mysuru: Poorviraga, a musical evening hosted by Kamini Kare and Just Events 365, at Kalamandira here last evening treated the music-lovers to memorable Kannada film hits of yesteryears.

Popular singers Manjula Gururaj, B.R Chaya, Jogi Sunitha, Srinivas and Shree Harsha churned out melodies from Kannada films of the 60s to 80s era.

Manjula Gururaj began the programme with Kuvempu’s Yaava janmada maithri from the movie ‘Gowri’ followed by B. R. Chaya who rendered her debut song  Hindustaanavu endhu mareyada… from Amruta Galige.

Jogi Sunitha, Srinivas and Shree Harsha belted out very popular melodies including songs from Olavu Gelavu, Naanu nanna Hendthi and Hombisilu.

Shree Harsha’s Belli moodithu koli koogithu and Manjula Gururaj’s signature song Olage Seridhare gundu had the audience on their feet. Jogi Sunitha’s Yello Jogappa ninna aramane drew a huge applause. Srinivas who lead the orchestra enthralled the crowd playing the guitar for the popular number Haadu santhoshakke. Well-known anchor Aparna hosted the show.

Dr. Kamini Rao of Milan spoke about Kamini Kare which works towards educating the girl child and for whose benefit the programme was held. The first programme of Poorviraaga was held in Bengaluru last year. Pooja Siddharth Rao, the brainchild behind the programme thanked the audience for the support.

A one-minute silence was observed in memory of actors Kashinath, Krishna Kumari and Chandrashekar who passed away recently. Dr. Kamini Rao’s husband Dr. Arvind Rao, a close friend of Chandrashekar spoke about his association with the actor and recalled how Chandrashekar and Vishnuvardhan were recognised for their talent during their college days.
