Pope Francis’ Ambassador to India visits St. Philomena’s Church

Mysore/Mysuru: The Apostolic Nuncio to India, Most Rev. Leopoldo  Girelli, who is Pope Francis’ Ambassador to India, visited St. Philomena’s Church in city yesterday.

The Vatican Ambassador to India and Nepal, participating in the prayer meeting, prayed for the well-being of all.

Later, Bishop of Mysuru Most Rev. Dr. K.A. William, Bishop Emeritus Rev. Thomas Antony Vazhappily, Mandya Bishop Most Rev. Sebastian, religious heads Alfred John Mendo, Dominic Vaz and others felicitated Rev. Leopoldo  Girelli.

Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Leopoldo Girelli said that Mysuru is the oldest religious place in Karnataka which houses the tallest Church in Asia and added that the Christian community has involved itself in various social services through educational institutions and hospitals.

Pointing out that Mysuru is famous for many things, he said that Mysore Silk, Mysore Pak, Mysore Sandal Soap and Dasara festivities were world famous. “Mysuru has made its own mark for the development of the nation and the city is known for its culture. I have a lot of respect for Mysuru,” Rev. Leopoldo  Girelli said.

Stating that there were a lot of changes taking place currently in the country, Rev. Leopoldo  Girelli said that God is  with all and called upon everyone to pray and live in unity to lead a happy life.
